Bonková, Petra ; Arnoldová, Anna (advisor) ; Cimrmannová, Tereza (referee)
My diploma work focuses on the issues of single-parent families in the Czech Republic and selected countries of the European Union from the perspective of social policy. I have selected those countries that border the Czech Republic, i.e. Slovakia, Germany, Austria and Poland. In the theoretical part of my diploma work I define family as an institution, its main functions, its historical development and its present changes. Further, I address the problems of single-parent and divorced parents from the psychosocial view, touching also on the subject from the perspective of the church. In conclusion to the theoretical part I address the social policies of individual countries. The practical part involves two pieces of research. The objective of the first piece of research has been to evaluate and compare statistical data from the social environments of the above mentioned countries with that of the Czech Republic. In the second part of research, by means of a questionnaire, I have sought the opinions and views of future family founders with regard to the issues of single-parents families.

Family Life with a Handicapped Child
VÁVRA, Roman
This Bachelor´s thesis is focused on the issue of living in a family with a handicapped child not only from the emotional but also social, financial and other points of view. The Bachelor´s thesis is divided into theoretical and empirical parts. The theoretical part consists of five chapters. The first chapter defines and determines family as a unit, describes the basic functions of a family as perceived and defined by various specialists. The second chapter describes responses of parents to a newborn child with the disability and also causes of incurrence of such disability and possibly existing types, such as physical disability, mental disability, visual impairment, hearing and combined impairments or disorders are analyzed. Further, this chapter presents the individual stages of response to an announcement of a serious diagnosis where the parents go through various phases, i.e. shock and denial phase, helplessness phase, gradual adaptation and dealing with the problem phase, bargaining phase, and realistic attitude phase. Then, it analyses the factors that can influence acceptation of the handicapped child and possible inappropriate educative approaches of the parents to the handicapped children as described by various specialists. The third chapter is dedicated to the sibling relationship. The fourth chapter is focused on economic factors in the family with the handicapped child. And the last chapter introduces social services for the families with the handicapped child. In the empiric part a main goal is set which is to find out how the parents experience the stress connected with the handicapped child from the emotional and social as well financial point of view, etc. There are also two research questions put arising from the goal of the research. The first question leads to the revelation of an actual financial situation in a family with the handicapped child and the second question of the research is what view of future mother or father who care for the handicapped child actually has. To achieve the research goal of this Bachelor´s thesis a qualitative research strategy has been chosen. The basic method used is questioning, semi-structural interview. The interviews were conducted with five families caring for their handicapped child. There were five mothers and one father, a husband of one of the mothers, who agreed with the interview as the only man. Communication partners were selected on the basis of a purposeful selection. The interviews were held in natural environment of the communication partners upon their agreement. Qualitative research investigation has discovered the surprising finding that all of the communication partners got insufficient information about their child´s diagnosis from the doctors specialists. The specialists were quite unfeeling, asking them whether they would rather wish to place the child in a specialized institution. The parents searched for information about their child´s diagnosis in professional journals and books, later on internet. Another unpleasant finding is that the state financing (state benefits) of the families with the handicapped child is insufficient. Moreover, the research discovered that the sibling bond plays a substantial role in the care for the handicapped child since the siblings participate in the care and provide assistance and support for the handicapped child. In the families with siblings the functioning of the whole family is affected positively.

HROMKOVÁ, Renata
The establishment of children?s centres started in 1992 spontaneously and following the children?s centres principal in Germany, a principal of mutual help. Presently, there are many entities ? also commercial ones ? using this name. The Citizens Association called Children?s Centres Network was established in 2001 and it is the umbrella organisation of approx. 330 children?s centres, which declare their alignment with both the original idea and with the well spread role of supporting the family values and inter-generation relations, role of parents, mother and father role within the society, family legal protection and equal opportunities and support of healthy life in healthy environment. Children?s centres have been established in big cities, towns and also in villages. The children?s centres operators are usually also their direct users and they define their activities according to their own wishes, and therefore the children?s centres offer a large variety of activities. The research part of the thesis mapped the centres and the offer of their services; children?s centres fulfil their communication and intermediation function between families with small children and the society. Children?s centres create both safe and open space for meeting with other people and for strengthening the role of family in the present society. However, current clients of children?s centres have higher requirements as compared to their predecessors 20 years ago and they request educational, cultural and sporting activities. Nowadays, the clients wish the children?s centres to be the tradition bearers and to help with the support of healthy life style. Children?s centres play an irreplaceable role in identifying pathological phenomena in families and they help with the primary lay prophylaxis. The professionalization of social service provided in children?s centres stumbles over short-term links to the activities in the centres and over the operators? and users? lack of interest. The children?s centres play a significant role in local civil activities, when new family friendly locations or activities are created. This year the 20th anniversary of establishment of first children?s centres is celebrated and the research in this bachelor?s thesis will be useful material for the called Children?s Centres Network in order to assess and evaluate the currently offered service and it may also provide the possible direction of the future development in children?s centres. A round table discussion took place in the Haštalská YMCA Praha Family Centre on 25th April 2012, where the research results of this thesis were used.
